At My Cavalier Pups, we love the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel for so many reasons. Cavaliers are affectionate, gentle, playful, and incredibly devoted to their families. They are the kind of dogs that want to be by your side for everything, whether that means a walk around the neighborhood or relaxing at home.
As we move into spring and summer, it is a good time to think about how to keep your Cavalier healthy, comfortable, and happy. Warmer weather brings more outdoor fun, but it also brings a few seasonal care needs every Cavalier owner should keep in mind.
Spring Care for Your Cavalier
Spring is a great season to refresh your Cavalier’s routine. Their soft, silky coat needs regular brushing to prevent tangles and keep them looking their best. Brushing also helps remove dirt, loose hair, and pollen that can build up after time outside.
We also recommend checking your Cavalier’s ears, paws, and coat after walks and playtime. Their long ears and feathered paws can easily collect moisture, debris, and little burrs during spring outings.
Seasonal allergies can also show up this time of year. If your Cavalier starts licking their paws, scratching more often, or rubbing their face, pollen may be bothering them. Wiping down their paws and legs after being outside and keeping their bedding clean can help.
Don’t Forget Flea, Tick, and Heartworm Prevention
Spring and summer are also the seasons when fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes become more active. Since Cavaliers have longer coats, it can be easy to miss a tick if you are not checking carefully
We always encourage families to stay current with flea, tick, and heartworm prevention recommended by their veterinarian. It is one of the most important parts of caring for a Cavalier during the warmer months.

Summer Heat Safety Matters
As temperatures rise, heat safety becomes especially important. Cavaliers enjoy being outside with their families, but they can get too hot quickly, especially on humid days.
We recommend walks in the early morning or later in the evening when it is cooler. Always make sure your Cavalier has access to fresh water and shade, and avoid hot pavement that can burn sensitive paws. If the pavement feels too hot for your hand, it is too hot for your dog.
Watch for signs your dog may be overheating, like heavy panting, slowing down, or looking for a cool place to rest. It is always better to shorten outdoor time than to risk heat exhaustion.
Grooming and Daily Care
A well-groomed Cavalier is usually a more comfortable Cavalier. Regular brushing, occasional baths, ear checks, and keeping paws clean all help your dog stay healthy through spring and summer.
Cavaliers do best with moderate daily exercise, quality food, routine veterinary care, and lots of companionship. They are not a breed that likes to be left out of family life. They truly thrive when they are included in your day-to-day routine.
Why Life Is Better With a Cavalier
One of the best things about summer is enjoying the season with a Cavalier by your side. From morning walks to backyard playtime to quiet evenings on the porch, Cavaliers have a way of making every moment sweeter.
At My Cavalier Pups, we believe the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is one of the most loving and rewarding breeds to have in your life. With the right care during spring and summer, they can stay healthy, happy, and ready to enjoy every sunny moment with you.
And honestly, that is part of what makes life with a Cavalier so special in the summertime. They bring joy, companionship, and so much love to every day.
